In a rapidly growing market, businesses fall behind and fail if they do not hire and develop people fast enough. Some companies lose opportunities; companies expanding in China often fall short of their growth plans because they do not have the right salespeople in the right cities. Other companies lose customers by not having the right people to deliver on new contracts. Almost all companies in high-growth markets struggle to retain talent because managers do not have the skills to retain them.
