The Challenge

The bank had been growing in Asia by relying on talent from its headquarters in Europe. They needed to scale local talent up in a few areas to prepare them for these roles. Their key needs were in:

  • Insight and strategic thinking about business and markets outside their own area of expertise
  • Innovation to take this knowledge and apply it to improve processes or products
  • Initiative to drive new ideas and impact the bank more broadly
  • Influence to help them make their changes a reality

Results

Our client asked us to deliver our LEAP programme to both deliver strategic projects and develop leaders.

Projects included new business opportunities, process improvement, and an HR talent management framework.

However, individual development was much more important to them. Some leaders improved significantly in their targeted capability areas (e.g., up to 85% improvement pre- and post-programme). On the other end of the spectrum, they realized a couple of leaders should not have been nominated as high potentials.

Solution

The senior leadership team participated throughout the programme and helped define the focused development areas, the strategic projects, and the sponsoring projects, and participated in workshops.

LEAP offered something for all stakeholders. LEAP participants found the structured learning modules and tools from workshops the most important for their development.; while their managers on the senior team thought the strategic projects were most instrumental in development and most important for the business. Ensuring learning occured in both areas was the key to programme success.

In addition to projects, each leader drove their own development through individual action learning experiences. Executive coaching and bespoke 360s supported this development and ensured accountability.
